NLP Training Courses, or Neuro-linguistic-programming courses, will teach the learner how to speak the language of the mind.

What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming can be described as the study of how we think, communicate and behave. NLP can be utilised by people from all walks of life for both professional and personal growth and development. NLP encourages the practitioner to use communication techniques, both behavioural and perceptual, to enable change in peoples’ thought processes and their actions. NLP uses language processing in its functionality however, it should not be confused with natural language processing, which shares the same acronym. NLP was first developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, they believed it was possible to identify the thought processes and behavioural habits of successful people and pass that knowledge onto others. Bandler and Grinder have published two books on the subject, The Structure of Magic I and II.  It is due to the popularity of these books that NLP really took off. It garnered so much attention in part due to its versatility in addressing the many diverse issues that people face.

How Does It Work?

There are many different interpretations of NLP and this can make it hard to define. Mainly though, it is based around the idea that people operate by internal “maps” of the world. These maps are learned behaviours that are created through sensory experience. The purpose of NLP is to identify and then modify any unconscious biases or limitations that an individual has written into their map of their personal world. It works by using the conscious use of language to effect change in the subconscious thought process.  To illustrate this, consider a central feature of NLP; According to Medical News Today, NLP focuses on the idea that a person is biased towards one sensory system, known as the preferred representational system or PRS. Therapists can detect this preference through language. Phrases such as “I see your point” may signal a visual PRS. Or “I hear your point” may signal an auditory PRS. An NLP practitioner will identify a person’s PRS and base their therapeutic framework around it. The framework could involve rapport-building, information-gathering, and goal-setting with them.

How is NLP useful in the business world?

NLP is very useful in the business world as it allows a person to utilise a selection of powerful tools and skills in order to enhance personal performance. This is applicable in many fields most of which are particularly relevant in business. Many of the techniques you will learn when studying NLP will provide a basis for a persuasive and successful negotiation. For example, practitioners of NLP will find that by implementing the techniques learned in an NLP course, they will improve rapport-building, goal-setting and achievement and innovative thinking. They will also be able to provide a better understanding of the needs and motivations of customers.

What are the benefits of NLP for business?

NLP is designed to unlock personal potential and improve performance. It removes psychological barriers – such as fear of failure – that would normally inhibit people from testing their abilities and encourages them to step away from their normal comfort zones. Doing this provides people with the confidence to overcome beliefs that might usually limit them. NLP creates a neurological  ‘safety net’ that allows people to achieve more than they would have ever thought they were capable of. NLP can improve employee satisfaction, confidence and morale. It can increase team performance and productivity and thereby, in turn, improves customer satisfaction.
