On the NFQ, a Special Purpose Award / Certificate is issued for specific areas of learning that have a narrow scope. All of these qualifications are made up of a few modules. This means that their ‘credit value’ will most likely be higher than that of a minor award but a good deal lower than a major award. These types of programmes are great for students who want to build up their units of learning in their own time and with their own direction.
