Export-led growth crucial for Irelandâs recovery
The International Trade Skillnet has that export-led growth is the only sustainable route to secure long-term prosperity for Irelandâs economy. The comments were made at the launch of Exporting Internationally: A Smarter Business Guide to Certificates of Origin which was funded through the Training Networks Programme, from the National Training Fund through the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Mary Meehan, International Trade Skillnet Network Manager said, âThe success of exporters is ever more essential for the Irish economy to grow and prosper in the current economic climate. As a small open economy, our growth and well-being are heavily dependent on our trade performance. To date, Ireland has shown that we are well placed to âpunch above our weightâ in international markets.â
âAs one of the worldâs leading exporters per capita, we must not become complacent about the challenges we all face from increased globalisation and international competition. However, given that Irelandâs exports only fell by 1% in 2009, one of the most challenging years our economy has faced, and are forecasted to increase by 2% this year, we are in a good position to continue to punch above our weight,â she said.
âIt is against this backdrop that the International Trade Skillnet has launched this practical guide to understanding Certificates of Origin. It can help companies to better understand Certificates of Origin, why they are needed and the steps involved in the authentication process,â Meehan concluded.
